Hello all,

Our cas wraps are getting on a bit, and we are thinking of upgrading. Something to keep casualty warm on the stretcher.

I've heard about a pizza bag?

Cheers

Yes, the geese are flying south early this year.

It didn't feel particularly cryptic when I was typing it, but maybe something got lost in translation somewhere between the brain and the keys. Does the above message not make sense?

There have been questions fielded in the past about equipment used by mountain rescue teams. I know there are a number of members on here.

Stand alone or inside your old casbags.

Interesting, thanks.

We use a Blizzard Blanket inside a casbag. With Blizzard heat pads for when it's really cold.  https://www.blizzardsurvival.com/product-category/bags-blankets/

I don't think anyone is doing anything vastly different, different combos of foil, insulated cas bags, heaters etc... there are obvious limitations on what can be used, light enough to carry in, full length zips, access for pulse ox or drip line..., some width flex for splinting and larger cases, a big hood, all need to be compressable for stretcher straps to hold them securely etc. There has even have been the odd dabble with bubble wrap! Doesn't harm to ask around though. If you want to look at the lightest, most creative and flexible systems do a joint training exercise with cave rescue.

Something like these from aiguille? https://www.aiguillealpine.co.uk/products/rescue-industrial/casualty-bags/

Pretty standard for lakes teams, can add chemical heat blankets for increased warmth. The blizzard bags are our go to as a vapour barrier for hypothermia in addition.

Thanks Tom, the Aiguille Alpine looks the job. Probably go for a pair of those. Closest to veteran pieces we've got in use at the moment.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Same as we use in South Wales. Exactly the same as with blizzard bag as vapour barrier and chemical heat pads, there was some talk about moving the USB heat pads though as they are reusable.

I'm pretty sure Ogwen have at least one Aguille cas bag and we use chemical heat pads prewarmed on cold days. Blizzard bag for vapour barrier if it's a hypothermia case. I would probably email MREW if I were you - they'll have plenty of specialist advice.
