How to re-design/modify your own tent?

Hi. I wondered if anyone knew of any companies in the UK that will re-design and modify your lightweight tent?

I want to modify and attach something to a silnylon flysheet on my Lightwave tent? This will improve the performance dramatically. And I'm happy to pay a company to do this, rather than invest in other tents which don't match the exact criteria I'm looking for.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Scottish Mountain Gear or Lancashire Sports Repairs would be my first ports of call.

Scottish Mountain Gear are an excellent company and would be my go to. The repair work they did on one of my tents was very high quality and far cheaper than I was expecting.

Thank you for the recommendations. It's really appreciated. Because this is a modification, rather than a repair. I assumed these two reputable companies wouldn't be able to do anything.

I remember hearing once that there was a little company that does specific modifications according to the customers requirements.

I'm not sure big companies like the two mentioned would cater for this type of modification.

I will certainly contact them if no other companies are mentioned here.

I sent my Wild Country tent flysheet back to Wild Country to get an extra peg loop added to it so no harm in contacting the manufacturers of your tent either.

A decent local tailors shop may well be able to help too depending on what you want done. My local shop has fixed various bits of outdoors kit for me including a rucksack.

Scottish mountain gear certainly do modifications, I enquired about getting a tent modified and they were happy to help. I didn't go through with the work in the end but they were very helpful.

 Thanks Fiona.

I did write to Lightwave complaining about what I thought was a clear design fault and how to improve it, but I've not had a reply yet.

I think it's a good idea to ask whether they can modify it at an added cost. They'll have the correct materials at least.

Scottish Mountain Gear definitely do do mods (they have for me in the past) and I was under the impression Lancashire do as well, though I may be wrong. Like near all UK based outdoor companies, they are actually pretty small enterprises run by enthusiastic outdoor people like you and me so a quick phone call and they will probably try to help you out if they can.

Good luck getting any meaningful reply from Lightwave. I too had a tent from them with serious design and manufacturing faults and found it very difficult to get any sort of response from them. Fortunately the retailer refunded me.
