Hi, just got a new puppy, 8 months old now and I want to get him a harness for taking on scrambles. I have seen the ruffwear website and the fire and rescue harness, but I have heard that Troll do one, does anybody know of the website? Thanks.

In reply to franny: I use the Ruffwear one for my current dog - it has plastic fastex buckles.

I did have a Troll one for an old dog and it was heavy duty D ring for krab attachment and proper "double back" metal buckes like on a climbing harness. I believe that SARDA used them for winching dogsd out of copters.

Ruffwear has a nice little grabhandle on the back for lifting your dog over awkward steps but the Troll is ultimately heavy duty and built to a human climbing harness standard.

In reply to uberdan: Use a Hilti gun, then any weight differences should be negated
In reply to koolkat: Hi, he is a cocker spaniel so it would probably be too big?
In reply to David Hooper: Hi, yeah my friend has a ruffwear one for her dog and they look good, just wanted to have a look at the troll ones though. Do you have contact details for the troll one? Thanks

In reply to franny: Dont have any details for troll - try googling. If your dog isd a Cocker Spaniel and not that heavy - the Ruffwear should be more than adequate and easier to put on take off.

In reply to franny: You probably won't get a Troll one now as Troll don't exist anymore and any in existance will be out of date by now. I have an old Troll harness that I cutrrently use for training. The newer harnesses that we use are very similar to the Troll ones but I don't know where we get them from. Can send a photo if that's any help.

They don't. But Troll's former technical specialist & designer (and long-serving member of the Oldham MRT) has set up his own company:
http://www.sar-products.com/index2.htm

He doesn't currently make a dog harness, afaik, so its prolly no help to the OP. (Though it couldn't hurt to drop him a mail and ask about them.) But he does make some of Troll's other former products (Rocker, Allp, etc.) and some good new stuff too.

In reply to deepsoup: Yes, we use the Black Hawk Special on our Team. He is an option. Someone else currently makes dog harnesses very similar to the Troll ones as we now use those on the dogs, but I don't know who at the moment (no label).
In reply to Removed User: She is gorgeous! Haven't managed to upload any photos of Bertie yet though.
In reply to deepsoup: OK thanks for that info, guess it looks like he will be having a ruffwear harness then.

In reply to franny: in my experience its better ruffwear is better for bigger dogs.
Although mostly there your best bet for that kinda thing

In reply to franny:

To my knowledge the ruffwear one relies PLASTICE FASTEX BUCKELS with no stated load strength. Even a slip by a dog may be to much. Though many car harness's for dogs use the same buckles. I am currently making one using 3000kg 25mm tape with 3mm neoprene for comfort and using an industrial machine to sew the bar taks, tied together with tat, similar to the way a chestharness is tied.

yep, fastex, so good for 'assisting' your dog over a hard bit using the handle on the back, but not for hauling a dog up a 'pitch'. Not sure if could bastar*ise it with doubled back buckles as the whole thing isnt designed to take a load so rest of stitching may not be up to it.
I ended up not buying a ruffwear one as was wanting one I could use to haul my dog up after me, not just a hand-grip for getting over fences. When I contacted ruffwear they agreed wasnt suitable for hauling dogs. Mine's 13 now so doesnt come out scrambling that much anymore anyway
