A friend and I are going to be staying just down the road from Glen Loin and thought the loop might make a nice run. It's about 18k and, together with the ascent, might be a bit of a stretch beyond our normal training distance. Does anyone know if it's possible to cut a few k off the loop by nipping over the river at NN289087? Impenetrable forest / bog / deer fence? Thanks.
I don't know is the simple answer, but you can sometimes use Google Earth to get some idea of what the terrain is like, and having done that, I wouldn't fancy your chances - it looks pretty much impenetrable forest, albeit only for a relatively short distance. And there's also a river to get across (assuming I'm looking at the same loop as you are).
A good shorter run is to start in arrochar at the small car park just across from ben arthurs bothy pub, go up steep path and then left . follow along to join glen loin track then follow this all the wat to loch sloy road, return same way. great trip out about 7 miles
