Hi all,

I'm looking to drive over to Eryri in late September for a bit of hiking and would like a nice secluded campsite for me and my partner. Some basic facilities would be great, shower and bathroom etc. But I'm not looking to stay at a big family campsite where you're camping side by side with others.

Have you got any recommendations of nice quite spots up in the mountains that would suit my needs?

Cheers

By late September the crowds will have thinned and school/family holidays will be over so campsites in general will be quieter

In reply to Dav79an:

Hafod y Llan National Trust campsite should/could be ideal

Not really secluded but Dolgam is nice and the owner takes doesn't let it book up to crazy levels so it never feels busy. He also takes no shit so you won't be bothered by noisy neighbours.

Dinas Farm between Bangor and Ogwen is lovely and very quiet

Cwm Bychan is a lovely spot, secluded, quiet, and a great base to head up the Roman Steps into the Rhinogs, but the facilities are non-existent.

Gwern Gof Uchaf under Tryfan is very well-located for anything in Ogwen Valley, and does have loos and showers, but will tend towards busy at weekends with climbing club groups, etc.

There's a couple of sites on the road east of Bala which might be interesting to you.

Yes so long as you don't pitch on the flat area immediately beside the river it's generally not at all crowded even at back holidays. The farmer expects you to be out waking/climbing all day and then wanting sleep at night and is only across the road so regularly pops across to check that everything is ok - lovely guy but I don't think he's the kind to tolerate noisy idiots.

I was there once before he installed the secure entry. A bunch of guys and girls turned up, music blaring and started unloading slabs of booze from the car. He was there within seconds and moved them on sharpish which pleased me no end!

Secure entry? Not been for ages, but I'm still struggling to accept electric lighting in the toilets.

When we've been his sensor for new arrivals was just a very rattley cattlegrid.

There's a chain across the entrance now, you get the code when you book. He said they put it in during the pandemic when they had to limit numbers.

Book???

You mean it's no longer, turn up and wait for him to drive over five minutes later to collect your money?

I think you can still turn up without booking but you'll need to knock on the door to get in. I think it's the price you pay for it not being rammed.
