Hi

My partner was called up by CLC and informed she had won a holiday, the catch was we had to attend a sales pitch in Manchester, of around 1.5Hrs, and we got £75 in Sainsbury's vouchers for our trouble.

Off we go, and we get a bit pich, they were a time share but now a holiday resort developer and you can buy into their club, over 19 years with a fee of around 19K (over 19-years split between a fee and maintenance charges). For this you get access to some fab accommodation across 50 resorts. To me this sounded too good to be true. Add to this, we already have our holidays sorted for 2018.

Then we got a today only introductory offer. 5-weeks accommodation over the next 3-years for a fee of 4.3K.

We haven't paid and are not planning to pay anything. I was wondering if anyone had any dealings, or anyone in the industry with a perspective.

cheers

Hmm... manipulative and slimy marketing tactics, lock-in, targeted and time limited "call-to-actions" and subversive exploitation of your fear of missing out all aside, just look at the numbers! 4.3K will bag you over a hundred nights in Alpine huts and I know which option will make for more fun.

On this note, I was reading this (http://semi-rad.com/2017/12/put-more-self-flagellation-in-your-vacation) on the train, yesterday.

I think you answered your own question

A former colleague was signed up to it, she thought it was the best thing ever. I guess it depends what you want from a holiday, if what they offer closely matches what you want, it may be a good deal. Personally, whilst I enjoy time on a beach, I definately want to mix things up a bit.

If you google them you will see lots of stories about misselling.

So did you get the vouchers and had your partner truly won a holiday?

In reply to Rampikino:

We got said vouchers, so that's £50 towards our Christmas food shop. We have 7-nights accommodation, we have to do the flights. So maybe well take it.

The stories about misspelling caught my attention, which prompted me to see if anyone else had experience etc.

I had the same a couple of years ago.

Attended the sales pitch was informed the holiday is free (accommodation not flights) and all we would be required to do is attend another sales pitch on one day during the 7 day holiday.

Again it all sounded OK but in fairness they weren't the sort of holidays we go on so we took our vouchers (M&S) and said goodbye. We could of had a 'holiday' for free but as we would then have to buy the flights/car hire (we wouldn't want to stay in the complex for 7 days) it all adds up so its not really free.

From a personnel point of view they were up front from the start they didn't try and steam roll us and after the initial interview when they find out what sort of holidays you like it was evident that they would struggle to sell us anything but were perfectly happy to go through the motions.

"Offers" like this are ten a penny and I have come across several variants including free or cheap flights, and holidays. I would not touch any of them with a bargepole

Thanks for the instructive story anyway. People need warning

Wasn't it £75?

In reply to Blue Straggler:

Yes, correction £75
