What's the situation? Between the noggins on here we can probably figure it out! 

Is it a 1900s terrace or 1930s semi? 

Is the damp around the chimney or the gable end? 

I'd look for a roofer rather than a "damp specialist" unless you're looking for a roofer who likes working in the rain.

It's probably the chimney not capped or vented correctly, poorly pointed/rendered or the flashing around it not correct.

We got an overall damp survey done by JH Rees when we were buying and they were great. If you want to get a diagnosis of the problem from someone who doesn't have a stake in selling you a solution then they might be worth trying.

I used this company for my house survey recently. I'd recommend them.

There are so called 'damp specialists' who are no more than a shop window for a range of waterproof products. You want someone who isn't invested in a particular solution. E.g. a good roofer and/or builder.
