I've got to do a little work thing on the pitfalls of project management and it seems to me that the Dilbert cartoons are the most authoritative source on the subject.

Do you have any favourites I should know about - keeping it on the project management theme please?

Not strictly project management but are you familiar with Peter Principle?

You must know the three envelopes story? In brief:

New PM takes over. On his desk he finds a note from the outgoing PM that says 'In the drawer you will find three envelope. When things get tough, open them in order'.

he's OK for a while, then things get tough. He opens envelope #1. A piece of paper inside says 'Blame your predecessor'. He does, and all is well for a while.

Things get tough again. He opens envelope #2. Inside it says (choose to suit) ' Blame your team'. 'Blame yourself' 'Reorganise' He does and all is well for a while.

THings get bad again, so he reaches for envelope #3. Inside, a note says 'Prepare three envelopes'

Dilbert is great. I am unsure of what career path he is in though as he regularly jumps between software developmer, electronic engineer, business analyst, project manager, and during the bank crisis he seemed to be involved in finance in some way

Love the fact that your little bit of work is basically going to be a series of cartoon strips
