Ok, I am looking for ideas for my last classes of the year. More specifically, ideas of games I can play with the kids, that they will enjoy and that are vaguely English! (These are EFL classes). The kids are 8-10 years old.
Obviously I have a few ideas already in mind, but I am just hoping for a few extra from here, to broaden the spectrum and keep things interesting!
Ideas below, pretty please!
Cheers,
Flicka.

Fruit Salad?
Give them all the name of a fruit, either apple, orange or pear.
Sit in a circle - one person goes in the middle this person shouts one of the names of the fruit and they have to get up and swap seats (including the shoutee) the person without a seat gets to shout the fruit next.
If the person in the middle shouts 'Fruit salad' then everyone gets up and finds a new seat.
This game needs to be played fast.

Murder

Whole class stand in a circle.
One person (the detective) leaves the room.
One person is selected as the 'Murderer'.
Detective re-enters.
If the Murderer winks at someone in the circle they have to die theatrically.
The detective has to guess who the Murderer is.

Heads down - Thumbs up.

Several people selected to be 'on'.
Everyone else must put their heads down, eyes closed with thumbs in the air.
The people who are on walk around the class and touch the thumbs of one person down each.
The people who have had their thumbs put down guess who did it. If they are correct the go 'on'.

I don't know if any of this is any good for you, but it keeps my lot entertained at the end of term.

Don't have it here n don't think it would work too well with 25 kids at a time!!

Scrabble definitely exists in France - I have played it!

Couldn't you set them up in groups of 4 or 5?

Or put a drawing of a board up and ask them all to come up with words?

worked in outdoor centres for years, have many games purely for your entertainment!!

Grassy Bicep: take the kids to grassy area, they have one min to stuff grass under their clothes to make themself look as muscly as possible!

Dont look at the potato!: Self explanitary, have a spud with you at all times, pull it out whenever you want, punish any child that looks at it.

Feather west :make a feather go west without any phisical contact.

Hope you have fun with these!

Wink murder! kid leave the room, they are the detective! deligate a killer, whose means of killing is a deadly wink! bring the detective back in, the have to guess who the killer is, if the killer winks at anyone the fall over/lower head, hours of fun!

Human bridge! split into two teams, mark out a start and finish line (about 15 ft) each team must span the distance while being in contact with each other...But decide how many body parts are allowad to be in contact with the ground..i.e each team has to span the distance using only, 2 feet, 2 knees, 2 bums, 2 hans, 2 elbows etc.. you can make it as easy or hard as you like (ind its funny yo watch)

Have fun

Al

Hangman works on a blackboard with a class, might be good for EFL students? Kids put their hands up to guess letters or the answer, whoever gets the answer gets to pick the next word/phrase, or if the class loses, whoever picked the last word gets another go. Make it quite complicated for a class though, or they won't last long.

Games like pictionary might also work on a blackboard?

Queen's jewels is well liked by my cubs. Sit them in a circle. One person is the Queen (or King), and they sit in the middle on a chair, and are blindfolded. Leave the space where they were sitting free. You need something noisy like a big bunch of keys (or a couple of rockcentrics on a krab?) which you put on the ground in front of the queen...these are the jewels. Someone else is chosen to be a thief. They have to stand up and walk round the edge of the circle to the gap left by the queen, approach the queen, steal the jewels, and take them back to their seat. The Queen has to listen for the thief and can get them out by pointing at them if they hear them. If they catch the thief they get another go (although it might be wise to limit the number of goes as this is quite hard!). If the thief succeeds, they become the Queen. Oh yeah, pick the thief after the queen is blindfolded by touching them on the head so the queen doesn't know where they are starting from.

Newspaper hockey works well if you have space. Divide the kids into two teams. Make four or six "hockey sticks" by rolling up newspaper. You also need a soft ball, although you can used a screwed up wodge of newspaper. Number each of your teams one to whatever. The teams stand in lines at each end of the room arm in arm. Call the numbers out in pairs or threes, and the kids with these numbers from each team come forward, grab a hockey stick, and essentially paly 3 on three hockey. The rest of the team act as goalies but can't let go of each other. Goals are scored by hitting the wall behind them. You can either give them a time limit (say 2 mins) or let each lot play until a goal is scored.

Old favourites like duck duck goose are also good, especially as you don't usually have to explain the rules.

Hope that helps

K
