Seriously just ask them, I'd be pretty shocked of it was the first time they'd been asked the pronunciation!

What nationality are they btw?

Probably a good idea to come straight out and ask them - got to be better than getting it wrong. I doubt they'll be offended.

I would guess that it would be

Vrtselye

and that they are Slovene or some such nationality.

And try to roll the 'r' in the proper (i.e. Scottish) manner.

In reply to Postmanpat:

It’s a Czech name and it’s pronounced like this:

“Ver” as in the word “Verge”

“Jine”, rhymes with “Wine”

“Arr”, as in the common agricultural term “oo-Arr”

Glad to be of assistance.

In reply to Joss:

heh heh heh.

actually it's Croatian. since no accent over c, it's pronounced s. so at a guess something like 'vrrrselye'

In reply to John Bear:

If its Croatian (or Slovenian/Serbian, etc) and there's no accent over the c it should be pronounced 'ts', not 's'.

In reply to John Bear:
Thanks,I was guessing Croatian . I'm going to ask at reception for "Mr.Versell" and hope that gets me through !

In reply to John Bear:
