Can anyone recommend a cheap but comfortable double sofa bed. Without going in to too many details -it's a possible present to family member to smooth over Christmas stay overs and to avoid family friction over said stay overs. 

I'm not sure what ours is but while it's apparently great to sleep on it's shit to sit on. It's one with a folding sprung mattress. We have a futon as well, it's much better for sitting or lounging.

The Ikea ones are pretty good.

Sounds like our ikea one, the metal fold out system makes it a firm sit, but comfy sleep. 

We have an IKEA one where the other half of the sofa bed pulls out from under the main sofa. Pretty comfy for both sleeping and sitting. Ours is a corner one and also has storage under it. I think it's this one

I wish we had bought an ikea one, this was pretty expensive from a boutique shop up the road. It’s like sitting on a Victorian photographer’s chair.
