Where does HS2 go?

Seem to hear lots of news about where HS2 doesn't go. But it's kind of hard to figure out where it _does_ go. I even went to the government site: https://www.hs2.org.uk/the-route/high-speed-network-map/

And from this, it seems like HS2 is still going to London, which all the ministers say isn't going to happen and Manchester, which all the ministers say isn't going to happen. And amazingly, it looks like Edinburgh and Glasgow are getting connected, which is the first I've heard of that.

I'm completely confused. What places will this new high speed rail actually go to and from? Is it just to go from Birmingham to Scotland?

I honestly don't understand.

Have you tried searching the internet for “HS2 map”?

https://www.hs2.org.uk/the-route/high-speed-network-map/

  • The new rails laid for HS2 phase 1 are London to Birmingham
  • By phase 2B, the new rails laid extend to manchester
  • Trains running out of London over HS2 could use existing rails beyond the planed end points to continue to Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow

Mind you, phase 2 might be a figment of their imagination…

Edit: fixed a Wintertree typo in response to Lankyman’s post…
