What the hell is it?

Just fixed myself the usual bacon, stilton and tomato baguette and noticed more of this gunk than usual.

Should i be complaining to Tesco?

In reply to Morgan Woods: It's water, sometimes with sugar nad/or fat in it. the more leaks out, the crappier your bacon.

In reply to Morgan Woods:

Buy your bacon from here and it wont have the white gunk on it. http://www.richardwoodall.com/

In reply to Morgan Woods: you mean the white gunk that 'leaks' out as you cook it?

think t is the water they soak it in to make it look fatter!

what, the rind? it's hog fat. If your talking about the foamy stuff that comes out when you cook it, thats excess water thats usually injected into poor quality bacon to make it heavier. Go to a proper butcher and get some good quality bacon and you will be able to taste the difference

What is most disturbing about this, is that the British public accept it and carry on buying the shite.
Stop buying it and they'll have to stop selling it.

if you look on bacon packet (if you work and don't always have time to go to organic eco butchers) - it will give the percentage of pork/bacon - so aim for the higher percentage (if you can afford it)

chicken is much the same.
On the whole though i find the cost works out similar since you need less to get flavour

cheers...i'll look out for it.

i never had a problem with this back in Oz....surely the british who are more well know for their bacon consumption should put pressure on the major suppliers to stamp out this practise?

The British are also well known for buying the cheapest shite imaginable, regardless of considerations of taste.
