I'm thinking about exchanging my Nikon F2 for a mamiya C33 or C330-anyone have any experience of these cameras? I want to do a lot of black and white landscape over the next few months and I'm a big fan of 6x6 for small scale landscape prints. One of the students had a mamiya TLR on my degree course and she loved it. What do you think?

mmmmm, Mamiya C330. I've handled a friend's (as it were) and it was lovely. There are all sorts of other TLRs kicking around too, in varying states of repair/disrepair. If you can't find a C330 at the price you want, cast your net wider.

Are you looking for a straight swap or do you have a budget? If so, how much are you prepared to spend?

In reply to Armadillo: I have briefly discussed a straight swap with a shop in Hereford. If they don't offer me the right deal then I'll walk away, I have no cash whatsoever to put into it. There is:

A C33 for £15o ish
A C330 Pro for £225
A C330 with a damaged back, sold as seen for £50, that looks very simple to fix. I would like to try and straight swap for the damaged C330 and a wider lens and light meter for a nikon F2A in good working order, an 85mm 1.8 prime, a 4.5 28mm and a 75 to 205 5.6 zoom. I bought the F2A and 85mm from the same shop for £200 but the bodies alone can go for £200 regularly on Ffordes.

Fair enough. Good luck with striking a deal. You probably already know this, but don't forget to check the bellows for pinholes etc. The Mamiya TLRs seem well liked by folk. I think they're bigger and bulkier than Rolleis but Mamiya glass is usually pretty good.

I'd go for one that doesn't need fixing. One of mine needed fixing, which the fixers seemed to fail to get right again... and again... and again. Grr.

In reply to Removed User: The only thing wrong with it is the hinge pin needs putting back into the little brackets that keep it in place, which looks like a fairly simple operation. I hope!
