To mark the 25th anniversary of the Kendal Mountain Film Festival it was decided to try to achieve the near-impossible - to celebrate the whole history of British mountaineering and rock climbing achievement in just 25 classic photographs from 1880 onwards.
Gordon Stainforth shares some of the photographs with us (some of which will be available for sale soon as high quality prints), presents the full list of photographs and one of the extended captions that accompanys Doug Scott's fantastic shot of Dougal Haston arriving at the summit of Everest in 1975 after they had completed the first ascent of the direct route up the SW Face of Everest.
