Had a spare hour yesterday and had previously looked at Jackson Tor so went across for a look at Bank Quarry. Was appalled by very recent looking chipping at the bottom of The Power of The Dark Side (E8). Anybody else seen it/know about it? Are repairs possible? Completely irrelavant to me as a route, but what's this all about?

In reply to Mrs Linkwater: Im glad someones mentioned this, i was going to Write about this myself but as its not a place known to many folk i didnt think anyone would bother with reading it. Recently ive been having a go at tidying the place up a bit, Im majorly pi**ed off with whoever is doing it.

Whats likely, kids or climbers?

In reply to Mrs Linkwater:

That's really annoying. There's quite a bit of not-nearly-as-ancient-as-it-should-be chipping up there but very sad to hear if it's climbers up to it, especially on a route like that. What type of chipping is it?

Had it even been repeated in its original state?

In reply to Offwidth: Unfortunately id say it was climbers, the chips are happening in obvious places making life easier, wheres the fun in that?. There is plenty other unclimbable rock that kids could have chipped instead but i can only see them where the Problems are, tis a RATE bugger

In reply to Mrs Linkwater: I am talking about all the quarried areas up there by the way.

In reply to Offwidth: No, it's blatant whacking off of the arete - criminal.

In reply to Mrs Linkwater:

Has ME been in the Peak? (followed by the phantom chipper that shadows him everywhere of course).
In reply to Mrs Linkwater: I'd say it's almost certainly not climbers. The marks don't create any new holds and the climbing at the bottom is pretty easy anyway.

It is however fairly unsightly, which is a shame. Looks like someone has just done some idle whacking with a claw hammer in a fairly random fashion. The route itself I would say is 99% unaffected.

In reply to Mrs Linkwater: Well, My posts are pretty much completely irrelevant now

In reply to Tom Randall - Lattice Training: It looks like the same misguided individual has continued their random whacking to a lesser extent at the bottom of the Boulder and Yew Buttress. Again unsightly and a shame but I don't think the climbing is much affected, although a useful foothold at the start of 'Jimmy' may have been knocked off.
