In reply to Leftee: I live in Didsbury, which is in the south of the city and I'd say Manchester is a great place to live if you're a climber.
You can get to Hobson Moor in less than half an hour, the Chew Valley in less than half and hour and Windgather/ Castle Naze in about 40 mins.
Wilton and Anglezarke are reachable within half an hour for me straight from work (Salford).
Eastern Edges and the Roaches are a struggle after work with traffic, but possible in mid-summer if you can get out of work early. At the weekend you'll get to Stanage in about an hour or less if you miss the M67 traffic by setting off early.
I can get to the south Lakes and Langdale in just under two hours and the same for North Wales.
Over the Moors is a brilliant guide if you're based in Manchester.
Wall wise MCC has the nicest facilities and routes IMO, but Awesome Walls has better bouldering and less shirtless egos wondering around! The shop at Awesome is miles better (and cheaper) than MCC.
You tend to get a lot of young student types at MCC, which is no bad thing if you're a similar age and looking for partners.
Only been to Rockover once, but it's pretty good and easy to get to from Victoria Station..
