Does anyone know the whereabouts of Richard Carter, a regular Peak District climber in the 1980s, who lived in Bingham, Nottingham?

I'm after chatting to him as part of book research if anyone can put me in touch with him.

Many thanks!

I thought you might have been looking for this… https://www.ukclimbing.com/user/profile.php?id=21057 …Richard Carter but I suspect he’s too young to have been climbing in the 80s.

Is he the Richard Carter that became a star of the British paragliding scene in the 90s?

I know he was a climber prior to flying taking over.

In reply to overdrawnboy:

And who is still very active in paragliding, having completed the first 300km cross country flight in the uk in 2018.

Hmmm, might be hiding in plain sight. Thanks for the tip off. I’ll try that Avenue of enquiry.

If it's the same Richard Carter I would be interested to know what his climbing history is. He has had an extrodinary sucessful "career" in paragliding.

First broke the uk xc record in 1989 with a 47km flight.

First 100km uk flight in 1992

First 200km flight in 2011, when he actually smashed the record, landing after 253km

First 300km flight in 2018 nearly 30 years after his first record, on a new line that (as far as I know) no one had really attempted before, from the elan valley in mid wales, right across the country to the north sea near scarborough, flying for 8.5 hrs.

Please tell me he's also the inventor of the paraglider in-flight toilet!

If it is 'the' paragliding RichardC you are after, then he still lives in Hope Valley in the Peak and is still very active as a paraglider.

In reply to Lankyman:
