Heading to Porthcawl for a couple of days with the family and looking for suggestions of really easy routes to initiate a novice climber and a toddler.

Is there anything (sport/ trad/ roped scrambling) that springs to mind that can be arranged easily, doesn't involve a massive walk-in and isn't affected much by tides? Something in the VDiff/ 4 territory, and half an hour's max drive away (Gower is probably too far on this occasion).

Any suggestions appreciated, and feel free to drop some routes/ crags in the mix that are further afield. Might give us inspiration for a future trip. Thanks.

Box bay is the obvious choice. 5min walk from rest Bay car park. Loads of short easy routes at 15-20m and is a total suntrap. Easy to rig anchors at the top, no abseiling required. Guide is on the southwards climbing wiki site

This.

Box Bay has loads on offer, and anchors can be made from the top.

It is tidal though (if you aren't familiar with the Bristol Channel, it has a very rapid and very high tidal range) and the rock is very sharp.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds good, will look into it.

I have been doing some boulder traverse in Dunraven Bay and am aware of the hard routes there. Is there anything that fits the initial description, around Dunraven Bay?
