A few months ago I posted on here asking for potential interviewees for a blog article on climbing and osteoporosis.

There was a bit of an unforeseen delay (!) but I've now posted the article on my blog here: https://verticalyoga.org/2022/09/19/bone-health-climbing-and-yoga/

I have a particular interest in osteoporosis due to family history, and the aim of the post is to draw attention to the condition and its potential implications for climbing in later life.

In particular I hope to encourage younger climbers to make lifestyle choices which maximise bone health - as the stronger your bones are when you are young, the less likely you are to be affected by osteoporosis when you are older.

Vegans and vegetarians are at much higher risk of fractures than the rest of the population.

Yes, this is a good point, as it can be difficult to get enough calcium in your diet from plant-based foods alone.

It may be worth seeking advice about calcium (and vitamin D) supplements if your diet is vegan - or indeed you feel at any additional risk of osteoporosis.
