Hi, hoping someone might be able to help me with something that's vexing me!

I really want to practice my rescue techniques (eg. hauling up a non-responsive climber, abseiling down with them, etc. )

So what I need is somewhere with: a sheer drop of a few metres, a decent ledge at the top, and something at the back of the ledge to anchor into...

Any suggestions? I know it's a slightly odd request, but surely there are other climbers in London who practice this stuff?!

(I'm in North London, Holloway area...)

Thanks!

A decently stout tree works well enough with some bonus prussik training to get into position!

Please make sure you protect the tree from any rope rub though

Tower bridge? Might cause some bother though.

I don't know about the London area but if you are prepared to travel in the SE how about finding a disused railway line bridge?  I know of several in East Sussex which would be ideal, particularly the bridge under the disused Battle to Bexhill branch of the old line running through the Country Park of Comb Haven (just north of Bexhill) which has public access from several directions,

Alternatively the sea wall below Roc-a-Nore car park at Hastings would be perfect at low tide. Ideally you would need an early morning or late afternoon/evening low tide when it's not too crowded. Best to notify the Coast Guard in advance to avoid causing alarm!

Contact me if you would like OS grid refs

I've been up and down regularly for years and never noticed that!

I've yet to find a climbing wall where asking (or trying) to practice rescue or show someone srt doesn't result in a "No, It's the insurance" and a heap of other reasons given

In reply to Chalky247:

Dollis Hill Viaduct, Mill Hill, is enormous. Might have suitable shorter height section at ?northern end. Don’t know about access at the top (because it’s a railway.) Aeons since I’ve been there.

My mistake, I thought that they had a dedicated area to rescue and IRATA training.

AFAIK.. the Castle does or at least it used to when I did access work many many years ago (although I never did any of my exams or training there myself) but that would mean you can pay to do your IRATA training there. But not necessarily that you can use it under your own steam.
