> Scottish Winter/Alipne Summer????
>
> Why do people say that???
Winter is usually ice and snow, Scottish winter has a lot of snowed up rock that is not often found out of Scotland. Alpine summer is glacier approaches to snow and rock routes, Alpine winter is glacier approaches to ice and iced up rock routes (and is proper cold.)
I think it is simply because there is some cross over of equipment, boots, axe, crampons etc. Plus they are all snowy mountains, I think most people realize pretty quickly that they really arn't the same.
I do know what the differences are. I do know that they are totally different.
What I'm asking is why do people (mainly posters on ukc and writers in the mainstream magazines) use the phrase 'Scottish winter/alpine summer' as if they were the same.
