I'm not allowed to go climbing in the Alps this summer as the missus has insisted we have a family summer holiday. Soooo, I am constructing a cunning plan that will involve sun and fun for all the family - summer skiing in Europe!

As I understand it, one can ski in the morning and then chill out, swim, play tennis, etc in the afternoon. Sounds perfect.

Anyone got any experience/advice of whether its worth it, resorts, size of ski area, etc?

In reply to michael lawrence: have a look at Tignes (the other side of the Espace Killy ski area from Val d'Isere, you drive past the turning about 2km before you get to Val d'Isere.
In the summer has MTB (with lifts to save pedalling uphill!!), tenis, swimming (indoor and out), walking, a little climbing and is only a couple of hours drive from Chamonix, Anncey.
I have skiied (both for pleasure and work) there in both winter and summer - highly recommend it!!

There's summer sking in Saas Fee, although only about 4 runs depending on conditions. If you've not been before its a very quaint Swiss village, totally pedestrianised and very rustic. There's the usual golf/tennis/sport pitches for the afternoon and undoubtably some swanky hotel spas etc. Also good mtb-ing and a very tame marmot population so you can go marmot spotting, cuddling, petting with the family if you like!

Finally the train takes you so close to the top of the Allalinhorn you could probably bag the summitt with a quick solo whilst the family is having a lie in.
