Apart from a few crags with an experienced friend, I've just started. Since Christmas I have climbed twice a week at Pinnacle and I'm comfortable to 5c on lead. Can anyone advise on clubs that meet regularly in the area? I'm keen to learn more with a view to doing more trad on special occasions.

It might be worth getting in touch with the Peterborough Mountaineering Club (of which I was a member for many years) or their sister club in Wellingborough.

I'm not sure how active either club is these days but they share a comfortable hut in Snowdonia.

A little further south (only a little) but MKMC (Milton Keynes Mountaineering Club) is a friendly little outfit.  They mostly climb at both Big Rock centres (plus roughly a trip away a month).

Depending on where you are in Northants, Warwick Climbing Club might not be too far from you. We have a club wall at St. Nicholas Park leisure centre and a lot of us also climb at Warwick Uni and Pinnacle.

We have a number of trips throughout the year with a mix of trad and sport.

PMC seems fairly active from the link to the website. WMC has an active FB page but that web link leads to an inactive site (that's a photo of me on the home page!). I know that WMC used to have a weekly meet at Pinnacle so that would be a starting point for the OP. Reception would probably have details.

Does the John Clare Mountaineering Club still exist?

Although there are others (Rugby, MK .etc), I believe the most active club that regularly attends the Pinnacle is Banbury.

That aside, if you find your in need of a partner. The Pinnacle hosts a social night on Wednesday, which may be of use. I'd also be happy to meet up. If interested, feel free to drop me a dm and we can arrange something.

I've received various answers to this question, the common theme being Northampton University, but I've not met anyone from John Clare yet...

That's well worth keeping in mind, thanks Neil

Searching UKC Directory for climbing clubs/John Clare Mountaineering Club does produce an email address to contact..... but as a new member of WMC this may be of little interest/use to you now. I hope you find nice people with whom you can have good times & many adventures
