Evening All,

I'm looking for a guide (human or written!) to Scrambling / Top Roping routes in the Peaks. This May half term we are up there for a week.

My daughters - aged 7 and 5 - are competent boulderers, limited to grades 0-4 (in old money) by their reach only. We go at least weekly. I'm a competent indoor climber/boulderer.

So we are looking for a guide to get us on the hill for a couple of days of roped scrambling or top-roped climbing. Best would be recommendations for a person or company. We'd be very happy out there with a written guide but would probably do less and certainly learn less! Thank you all for your input.

Any thoughts appreciated!

George

Worth looking at these re written guides to get a feel for what is available and whether you can go alone or need a person guide

The Rockfax Eastern Grit and Western Grit books are probably the best for routes to toprope. The cicerone dark peak already mentioned is best for scrambles.

The user Offwidth on here has an encyclopedic knowledge of easier venues and routes which will be ideal.

If you're passing through Sheffield, you're welcome to borrow a guidebook and 10m static rigging rope if you need.

Am I right in assuming you're looking for a guide so they can do the rigging, as well as wondering where best to go?

If not, and you just want place recommendations, following with interest to see what others suggest. I'm always on the lookout for places with very easy climbing but also easy rigging (ideally which won't be rammed) - they don't always seem to coincide...

(I met him at a climbing club 10 years ago and have also worked with him delivering adventure activities for young people).

Yes, good fun for kids. I reviewed it with my as then 6 year old https://www.ukclimbing.com/gear/publications/guidebooks/christmas_books_-_o... (scroll down). Maps and lots of other useful info all in the little book.

Pete and Beth do a variety of outdoor instruction for walking,  scrambling, abseiling, climbing etc. But if the weather's bad and climbing outdoors looks grim, they can also do ermm... "Indoor" activities like caves and mines - which kids love as a big adventure
