Hi
Has anyone been to Montblanc area of Costa D. Can you tell me what the climbing's like? Also I've heard the hotel Dels Angels there is ok has anyone been? Might be going in April.

In reply to fodi:

Went there last September -- loads of good climbing within half an hour's drive of Montblanc. Nearest locations are Villanova de Prades (good lively campsite below the crags with all facilities and also timber chalets if you want a bit more comfort), and La Riba. Most of the climbing is on Conglomerate which takes a bit of getting used to. Granite Trad and sport climbing near Poblet monastery -- see pics on my profile. Not in any guidebook (english or spanish).

Cant tell you anything about the hotel, as we stayed at Villa Engracia - Les Masies - L'Espluga De Francoli.

Beautiful area, nice people, great wines and not many Brits, even less nightlife, dont arrive on a Sunday and expect to find any supermarkets open (or restaurants before 9pm)

Wish we were going back this year, but counting the pennies.

In reply to fodi: If you really like to climb, go to MONT-RAL, amazing place with an amazing ref. But... only climbing. If you want more than climb, go to VILANOVA. All the Prades area is a climbing paradise (Mussara, Arbolí, Siurana,...)

In reply to fodi: Quieter than the Siuran /Villanova are, but has a similar campsite, with chalets/pool etc, nearest crag is Pena Rubia which is excellent if a bit hard on grades. All the crags in CD are accesible in about an hour from Montblanc, There als good B+B and ceap holtes in Montblanc, its a good alternative to the Prades/ Siruana area.

In reply to fodi: But dont go to the CD until at least the end of march, the crags are high and can be cold.
