Any experiences and successes.
Any querky ideas in the pipeline.
Any resounding failures.
Any tips and techniques.

Ha ha ha! Nice one. That was seriously profitable (if rather contraversial) work.........

It's all in there.

  • Become a climbing instructor.
  • Run a climbing wall.
  • Have an epic and write a best-selling book about it.
  • Become a famous mountaineer, write books and give lectures.
  • Become a climbing-oriented writer, photographer, or artist.
  • Run a gear shop.
  • Work for a company designing and making climbing equipment or climbing walls.
  • Go into rope access.

<NB: None of the above are guaranteed to make you rich. Or indeed solvent.>

    In reply to Wingnut:

You can't really count rope access as making money out of climbing. Most of my mates who do rope access aren't climbers and the ones who are don't get to climb much cos they're working (or are knackered from working!).

    climbing butlering.
silver service tea and biccies be abseil while you belay.
    In reply to Wingnut:

Add full-time route setting. Great job, lots of climbing time, but very hard work.

Good one. Me and some mates used to do route setting at The Foundry in exchange for free entry many years ago. It's great fun. Frustrates me now when routes are set with no imagination.

good idea how about a delivery service from outside in Hathersage to Stanage

In reply to lost1977: I think you would be a bit boxed by the time they got up there! Also how would you negotiate the cash transaction for that much needed rock 6 when clinging on for dear life!

    In reply to Matt Maynard:

i was thinking more along the lines of pints of coffee and bacon sandwiches from the cafe

as far a gear delivery within 30 minutes or a pound off

as for pricing the formular used is

    price= rrp*meters up+(1.5*meters above last piece)

In reply to seagull: correct and rope access folk dont make money out of climbing but out of abseiling!

However they do usually fall into two categories, either construction workers who get into rope access or pot head hippy climbers, plenty live in Sheffield too
