Hi guys,

Quick question, our flight arrives into Prestwick Int Airport at about 7pm on the 31 of Jan, what would be the quickest/cheapest way to get to Aviemore at that time?

Thanks.

Darragh.

In reply to Irish Climbing: For trains, have a look at:

At that time of evening, I suspect your best bet is to get a train to Glasgow, find some cheap accommodation there and take an early train or coach to Aviemore.

Hire a car, would be good if there were 4 of you.

Darragh,
There used to be a system with Ryanair (I think - will check with mate 2morrow) where you could get a return rail ticket to anywhere in Scotland. It's a few years ago now but will check for you.

A quick look at the above timetables suggests that unless by some miracle you can get to glasgow for the 19:41 train to aviemore you are fcuked.

Hire car or Glasgow overnight looks like your only options - try Etap hotel in Glasgow for the overnight option.

Sorry if i built hopes up but apparently this system only applies to the first six months of a new airlines first arrival at Prestwick. I'd say best bet is hiring a car. It's only about 3.5 hrs to Aviemore from Prestwick. If you've got a lot of gear it would make life a LOT easier.

Agreed; a base in Aviemore and no car makes getting to and from the crags a potential ball-ache.

In reply to Irish Climbing: id say a car would be a good idea for having in aviemore, but if you dont want to hire a car, the train is half price if you show ur plane ticket.
