I am thinking of going upto Skye in early August, some advice please!!

Do I need to book camp site at Glen Brittle?
One day traverse, I have solomon approach shoes, are they ok?
Anyone done it recently got any good advice?
What time is the best to start? Camp at the start and dump kit of not?

Thanks

In reply to VPJB:

I've not been to Glen Brittle for a few years but it is a fair size and I've never had to book in advance even at peak times of the year.
I think the shoes will be ok but others here will know better.
Cheers, have fun, it's a beautiful spot!

3am from the campsite, get some distance in before it gets hot (as it can in August).

In reply to Removed User: I slept at the campsite but overlaid, wehich meant I was crossin Sligachan moor in the dark, fortunately the lights on the pub were easily visible, if I did it again I would bivvy at the foot (or even on the summit, what a slog) of Gharrs Bhien, which should make a one day traverse easy. A kingd mate to take your gear back for you would be a bonus.

In reply to VPJB: 1. Doubt it. 2. Yep - it's what I wore - see bob's website for an account of our traverse. 3. Not for a year or two. 4. I think there's something more satisfying about doing it in a oner carrying all your stuff.

yes
Carry food and water rather than extra climbing kit or bivi gear, move quickly
Start from the campsite about an hour or so before dawn so you reach the first summit about and hour after, you ought to have enough light to finish the hard sections then.

In reply to VPJB: Take at least 3 litres of water per person
In reply to VPJB: I favour walking boots, but then i've got twisty ankles and bad luck with the weather
