Looking out today at -30 (-50 with windchill). Went out yesterday just to clear the snow off my drive and had to re-warm my hands 3 times even though I had a full set of winter gear on (including my Rab which is excellent in these conditions).

Heading north next week for some snow shoeing and x country skiing if it warms up a bit (-20 would be ok)

So what are the odds on a White Xmas?

(Reminds me of the one about the 2 Scottish soldiers in the Western Desert in WWII. Temp over 100 degrees again.
"Here, it's Lanimer's day the day."
"Och, great, at least they got a nice day fur it this year.")

-30C is bearable if its dry cold and windless, when I was last in that temp the windchill took it down to -90C, then you just don't want to leave the tent!

Your nose hairs freeze. Other than that, not particularly different as I recall.

Heating is gas using a forced air system, the houses are well insulated.

The old Cliche of "it's a dry cold" is true and so long as you are well wrapped up it's not that bad. The term "windchill" is relative here as a light breeze will make alot of difference but it don't Blow like Scotland!

The sun shines all day which makes it very nice when you look out, but the cold does hit you when you go out the door.

-30 makes it difficult to do much but -25 in the sun is really ok provided there is no wind.

You need to plug the car in if it is outside overnight and the transmission oil gets a little thick.
