I'll 2nd the Pillars of the Earth. Also worth reading the book it's based on by Ken Follett (of the same name) and 'World Without End' which is the sequel to it. Both very good.

Also worth reading the books Homicide and the Corner, amazing how many true things made it into the The Wire. I've not watched the homicide TV series yet though, any comments on that?

I'll throw my 2 pence in with Battlestar Gallactica (the reimagined version). Excellent!
In reply to The Lemming: depending on your mentallity, Big Bang Theory! its on season 4 on E4, but the first 3 can be easily obtained either boxset or torrent download. Im massively addcited to it, one of the funniest shows going when you get to know the charecters and the back story.

American Hotrod. Quest 7pm. It's educational, It has all the trappings of a soap. There's humour and a whole bunch of really nice cars. What more could you want.

In reply to The Lemming: Generation Kill (writers of the wire, set in the initial few weeks of the iraq war.) Brilliant series, only seven episodes, both funny and harrowing.
