Or do you know anybody who has? If so, I'm very interested in speaking to you. Please can you drop me a message so I can get in touch with you?

I'm heading out that way...

Driven down to Inya once from Novosibirsk and spent a few days in a kinda holiday camp/retreat. Very pleasant. Didn't do any mountaineering, although I was acquainted with a fellow who'd trotted up Belukha. Or at least, the 4000m peak that's in there the name of which I might have wrong.

Whaddya need to know ? It's rural Russia.

I've been, but didn't do any climbing, only walking. Super place. Drop me a line if you want any info.

In reply to Yanchik: Where is Inya, Google Maps puts that on the far East coast?! That's quite a drive.

Belukha is the summit yes. A fairly popular (for the area) guided peak I believe. We are looking at some of the far less frequented valleys. I was just after the experiences of anyone who'd been there, particularly mountaineering out there, but also just what it was like and how you found it. Looking to head out in August, so really just gathering all the information we can at present to help make some informed decisions.

seankenny - You have a message.

Thanks!

It's a village on a tributary of the Katun...

The region is probably an excellent choice for just heading out into the bush. There'll be plenty of Russian-speaking tourists in the "frequented" valleys, but a km in any direction will get you out of that, and you'll probably find them relatively hospitable and enjoyable company in any case.

What's it like ? Pretty Russian. Some Buddhist retreats. Some communal holiday camps with saunas. A bit of white-water rafting. Plenty of off-the-beaten track, though.

Enjoy. I'm kinda jealous...

In reply to Yanchik: That's great! Thanks. "Pretty Russian" hey. The fact you are jealous is a good sign. If you haven't already, stick your e-mail address in on the website in the top post and I'll drop you an e-mail when the site goes live.

Thanks,

George
