Im going to read it...Kukuczka,Rutkiewicz,Kurtyka...people of Golden Age of polish climbing...Im polish myself,funny enough I started climbing when I moved to Wales. I know Snowdonia better then polish Tatras

Can you do us a pronunciation guide then please? I've been reading these names since I started climbing over 20 years ago but still have no idea how to pronounce them!

I have got no idea Kukuczka sounds like Koo-Koosh-kuh accent on the middle sylable. The others i need to think

I'll give it a try

1) Kukuczka -> Coocoochca

with "u" like "oo" in boot but shorter

2) Rutkiewicz -> Rootcievich

with "r" like long rolled French "r"
with "i" like in eat but shorter
with "e" like "e" in the name Elisabeth

the sometimes forgotten eastern block climbers were hard as nails. About time there is another book written by a westerner. I read Kukuczka maybe it was Kurtyka book and it was mad what they did. Eight thousanders in winter? or by new routes.
