In reply to balmybaldwin: It's really interesting/worrying isn't it? I read the edelrid recall earlier - I don't remember anything quite like this before; in that it seems that an entire class of safety gear, regardless of manufacturer, isn't really safe. It would be a bit like if they said ALL cams don't work (well, fortunately enough of us have fallen off onto them to know that one isn't the case!).

Never done a VF, but always wanted to take my kids on one as it seemed an exciting but "safe" thing to do!

bit surprised by that statement about it seeming safe.
If you look at the length of wires between bolts on a lot of the VFs you can take some awfully big falls before anything stops you.
