 UKC News 30 Oct 2014
Iain Small, 4 kbNiall McNair rounds up significant ascents in 2014 from all over Scotland. The usual suspects and dark horses have been in play across Scotland over the rock season of 2014. One of the main characteristics of all the main players is an ability to climb at the same level across a wide range of different rock types such as gneiss, sandstone, rhyolite, granite mica schist, quartzite and basalt; necessitated by the ever changing weather conditions and the need to travel to different areas to find dry rock.

Good work! Particularly that wall on Carnmore, often thought how amazing it looks.

Good write-up, nice to read about some of the fairly unsung stuff that's been going on.

Good to read that - nice work Niall.

Fantastic stuff and inspiring pics.

Wasn't the essay "The Bat and the Wicked" not vice versa?
In reply to UKC News: It's a shame none of these reports considers routes less than E-whatever to be newsworthy. It's all very well going on about new E6/7/8 but this makes vanishingly little difference to the majority of climbers. Will you be doing a news report about quality finds under E3?

The link to the Supercrag PDF has the colon missing from after "http".

Also, what Mr Husky says.
In reply to UKC News:
Good write up, Niall. Don't listen to the naysayers. Hearing about podgy punters wobbling their way up VS's would have been completely tedious.

What about my barefoot top rope ascent of one pitch on "The Long Reach" (E1 - Etive Slabs)? I thought that would have been breaking headliner news?

Bit elitist that; what about quality finds under Severe? Inspiring report Niall

Inspiring report despite failing to mention this podgy punter wobbling up a cracking new VS on Red Burn Buttress on the Isle of Skye.

wow - murdo wasn't wrong when he said he'd been making it count this summer. that's some work rate!

In reply to UKC News:

There have been quite a lot of new easier routes (sub VS even) done in the extended Highland Outcrops area this summer, but you'll have to buy the guide to find out (out hopefully next year).
 Simon Caldwell 03 Nov 2014
In reply to Andy Nisbet:

Hopefully when it's published someone will write a UKC article a bit like this one, only highlighting the new routes that we punters can aspire to
 andyinglis 03 Nov 2014
In reply: All new routes done this year can be found in the SMC's online new routes downloadable pdf documents and in the SMC annual publication.

Good write up and nice to reflect on what Murdo and Iain have been up to this year.....

Great write up, interesting to hear of lots of the big extremes being fairly clean. Lots to aspire to!
