You 'orrible lot did me proud with the Valley Of The Rocks recommendation for Gogarth, lets see what you can manage for the St David's area in North Pembroke.

Usual requirements:

Peaceful, chilled out, showers and toilets, bit of privacy / shelter / shade desirable, as is some sort of mobile phone signal.

Strictly NO dribbling wanna-be muso buffoons tormenting campers and local wildlife with acoustic guitars or other instruments of torture.

Would be ideal if there was the option to turn up after hours and pitch up if possible.

Ta!

I stayed at this place for my --th bday bash last year.

Not the cheapest but very civilized and chilled out, and they have their own beach.

Porthclais is nice - walking distance to St Davids, right on the coast, little harbour/beach area next to it, and some climbing.

I stayed here, turned up late and paid in the morning, seemed pretty decent.

No mobile signal but good WiFi.

Another recommendation for Porth Clais. Walkable to the town and the crag at the southern end of the site.

Caerfai is also a great site - http://www.caerfaifarm.co.uk
More centrally placed so that you can walk to all the main crags within 20 mins, and the town in 5 mins. Beautiful beach below it, but the site itself is busier than Porth Clais.

Usually stay at Porthclais which is great when not too busy

When i did the Tour of Pembrokeshire last year we stayed at Glan y Mor which seemed good and is closer to the town as well as handy for Craig Caerfai

Thanks for the answers. Porth Clais seems to be getting the most votes?? Which of those sites is likely to be quietest though? I don't like other human beings

Caerfai Farm! Just above a great beach and just round the corner from Armorican...

I stayed here a few years ago in May and it was very quiet - also in August when it was busier but still plenty of space.
One incident sticks in my mind about my stay. There was a group of 4 bikers in Hell's Angels jackets who proved to be quiet and considerate of others - unlike an unruly family I once stayed next to.
One of the bikers had a big Harley three wheel conversion. Next door to them was an old couple in a campervan - the lady was disabled and used a mobility buggy to get around. The guy with the trike offered her a ride and they kitted her up with a helmet and went off round St Davids for a spin. She was really pleased with her trip and they shared a BBQ afterwards.
Another confirmation of the "Don't judge by looks" principle.

Porth Clais is definitely quieter and it is a massive field so you can pitch your tent miles away from anyone else. In fact you could pitch it at the top of Porthclais Area and belay from your sleeping bag although your rope would cross the coast path.

On the other hand I find that if I do judge by looks.. Hairy tattooed people with motorbikes tend to be friendly decent and good company.

Cheers that;s the choice then. Will probably need a longer rope for Mur Cenhinen tho.

Yep another vote for Porth Clais, loads of room, quiet, crag virtually on campsite, slight hike to nearest pub, but very doable. Enjoy.
Red Wall (S 4a) is an exquisite solo.

I am lying in my sleeping bag at Caerfai Farm typing this. I have also stayed at Porth Clais in the past. Caerfai is closer to St Davids should you wish an evening pint and has a great little on site shop but it is certainly busier (to the point of being close to fully booked throughout the school holidays). Both sites are superbly sited, close to crags and the coast path.

I would happily stay at either.

I camped at Porth Clais early July last year. It was a lovely site. Don't be put off by the big "do not" signs. The owners were v. friendly and accommodating

edit to add.... after a UKC recommend!

Yes, I ran into some of these on a campsite in Cornwall a couple of years ago, although they had smart camper vans rather than bikes. Thoroughly nice chaps - they were in a band. Hawkwind.

Fiend would have been OK though, they didn't play their guitars on the site.
