for someone who likes/d :
Orange is the New Black
Fargo
Trueblood
Better Call Saul
Breaking Bad

So comedy / low key or unrealistic violence / gritty !

Unfortunately no zombies!
 WaterMonkey 30 Aug 2016
In reply to Flinticus:

Sons of Anarchy
Game of Thrones
Peaky Blinders

Not sure they are unrealistic violence though!

Homeland wasn't violent but was very good.
Californication for a bit of risqué comedy

I'm gonna try her with GoT: dragons are usually a big no but I think this should be an exception! I've watched the first 3 series (and read the first 6/7 books) but will happily watch them again.

Green wing, British hospital comedy.
Jherico (American nuclear attack, not seen the British of the same name)
Californiacation, funny but lots of nudity

True Detective season 1. The best piece of art ever created by a human being (or getting on for it, anyway).
 Kimono 30 Aug 2016
In reply to Flinticus:
I would add:
Bloodline and Rectify.

Not action shows, more the intellectual/emotional type but both excellent imo.
If you liked Six Feet Under, you'll like these

Better than this? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_of_Saint_John_of_the_Cross

I went to see this a few weeks ago for the first time in a while and it was a fantastic experience.

I'm not religious BTW.

I can't say, as I've not seen it in real life. But in terms of the content, the actual philosophical meat involved, True Detective beats the shit out of anything Dali could ever dream of.

Is it as good as the comics?
In reply to Flinticus:
Fargo, particularly season 1 with Billy Bob Thornton

Ooops! just re-read your O.P.

I haven't read the comics but a colleague who has reckoned it compared favourably. On the quiet, he was dreading it but he thought they did a great job.

Some good suggestions.

Will give Banshee and Lilyh ammeter a go.

At first I thought Banshee was a reference to one of the X-Men characters! I was thinking 'Really?'

Will also look into True Detective
