How could I not share such a line...

"... Cotter believed the British climbers probably did not want four colonials on their Everest expedition.

But without being pushed along by the Kiwi efforts, including those of influential UK-based climber Dan Bryant, the British team may well have been pipped at the post by the Swiss or French.

"The British had been trying since 1921 and were still not getting to the summit because they were being too British about it," Guy Cotter said."

This looks like an interesting new book, shedding new light on old stories in the vein of Harriet Tuckey's 'Everest: The First Ascent'.

In reply to Damo:

Thanks for that, wasn't bringing John Hunt in as leader in place of Shipton also supposed to be about bring a more 'professional' approach & to some extent a break with earlier expeditions?

Yes, as I understand it, and certainly that's the takeaway from the Tuckey book.
