Today in two seperate accidents, six people lost their lives. First accident happened near Cogne and the second one in La Grave area. Both accidents happened around the same time. In the second accident, climbers from UK were involved.

Are there any news reports? I know some Brits who are out in Cogne currently. Horrible news for all the climbers involved anyway, but hoping they are ok.

In reply to TobyA:
New York Times was the only report I found earlier.
I think it was Gresonney. In la Grave I think the climbers were Spanish.

It was in Gressoney. 4 Italians. Sounds like there was a survivor who was above the collapse.

Thoughts for their families, friends and the survivor. Same goes for the La Grave incident.

Yes, they were Spanish. Reported temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees and sunny, on a South facing crag...

Tragic news, absolutely horrible to hear. Sincere condolences to the family and friends of everyone involved.

I stood on the Argentiere Glacier moraine and watched parts of Rive Droite crumbling apart under the sun today. Terrifying.

The name of the route in Gressoney was Bonne Année.

Terrible to hear this- we could only watch from high on the other side of the valley as an enormous avalanche engulfed four climbers on sonio di pattagonia on Wednesday. There was shouting for a little while after and no rescue choppers etc so we could only assume everyone was ok.
