If you've got delicate hands or you really need to protect them ( maybe you're a brain surgeon?). Polyco dyflex ultra . Very thin Kevlar engineers gloves with very tacky rubberised palms/fingers. I use them for work. Very grippy , very durable.

My arthritic fingers suffer in the cold even in summer so to prevent sore joints I tend to wear gloves on the hill if it is chilly.
I used to use Marmot XT gloves: http://www.climbers-shop.com/10893061/products/marmot-xt-glove.aspx but I find them too sweaty and not warm enough for walking use (ace for ice climbing mind) so I decided to revert to childhood and get some convertible mittens.
I ended up with a pair of these: http://www.climbers-shop.com/10907358/products/mountain-equipment-g2-alpine... which have been spot on. I can fit a liner glove under if it's really cold and it is easy to regulate temperature by folding back the mitt rather than taking them off.

Possibly a bit late, but try Mechanix gloves. they are quite industrial looking. but are thin and TOUGH. I know some of my military friends rate them, and I love mine.

It depends a little whether your primary requirement is warmth or hand protection but for summer mountaineering I use something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kunys-130M-Medium-Contractors-Flexgrip/dp/B00495ZF...

They're cheap and durable and don't reduce dexterity too much. Top tip - buy them in the snuggest fit you can get away with.
