Hi. Can anyone recommend a beginners course in orienteering for my me?

Easiest is to find your local club and contact them. There are always plenty of beginners' events around, and most 'standard' events have beginners' courses plus lots of people around who will be happy to help.

It has been a while, but you can just search for events online and turn up. They are really well organised, fantastic fun and most events cater for complete novices. The great thing is that the 'elite' people will be competing through the same territory, so there is a real buzz about being involved. Organisers are very helpful and plenty of people around to offer guidance. On novice courses, little kids will be charging about, some with parents in tow... There are basic rules about what to wear.

Most orienteering events are colour coded with easy being just several points to find and all in pretty easy to find locations and covering only 5km of ground.

They are an excellent way of improving your navigational skills and orienteering is not known as 'cunning running' for nothing?
