I'm going to be in Ailefroide for a few days on my own next week. Are there any routes which avoid crevassed glaciers? Scrambles are fine, but I'd prefer not to fall into a crevasse, so looking for recommendations of stuff which would be safe to do un-roped. Recommendations of hikes welcome too.

Would the Pelvoux ascent via the Coolidge couloir be safe to do solo (in terms of crevasses)?

Also, does anyone know what conditions are like over there?
In reply to Juan S:

Hi there,
did the Rochers rouges up the Pelvoux some years ago. No snow or glacier until near the top. All quite loose but easy enough. Snow on top could well have been crevassed though. You could also do Pic Coolidge, no glaciers apart from the dry glacier Noire. A fairy long walk in up the glacier then a steep rib onto the ridge. Places to doss on the ridge (can be descended the other side towards Le Berade). Should be peaks above the Glacier Blanc to solo also?
