I've often been plagued, on a long walk, by a runny nose. Whilst this is tolerable over one or two day I find that anything longer, with constant blowing and wiping of my nose invariably develops into an uncomfortably sore schnozzle with associated cold sores.

Anyone got any tried and tested means of prevention?

Sympathies I suffer as well. It helps to discipline yourself to just ignore it and let it run. Constant wiping with an increasingly damp rag makes it sore very quickly.

If one nostrils is blocked or running, I close the other nostril with my finger and exhale rapidly through the blocked/runny one. It doesn't always work, and it's best to stand well away from your colleagues, but it's better than blowing into an already sodden hankie.

Lipsalve works well. Just keep one specifically for your nostrils.

Don't blow it, just dab it.

Lipsalve or Vaseline on the nose and balsam tissues, disposed of before they are soaking
