Name the climb query.

Null 02 Apr 2019

Call to route naming experts. This is Roger Payne in 1982 or 1983, probably in the Lakes or N. Wales.

Route ?

The photo is probably flipped horizontally (it's a scanned slide) and I tried to publish both but only one version made it (and probably the wrong version since I seem to remember Roger always carried his wires on the right on the right side of harness !) so you should download it and flip it.

I'm trying to imagine that flipped, could it be one of the slabby routes on neckband crag? Somewhere near Gillette? (complete guess btw, but as Brucie would say, good game!)

I don't think it's Brant Direct. There's no overlap like that in the groove. It could just be Longland's on Cloggy.

Many thanks to everyone. Calum Philips just solved the problem. It is almost certainly the start of Porcupine on Shepherd's Crag, Borrowdale (photo needs to be flipped as expected). So tmawer wins the consolation prize !

I thought it to be Black Icicle as i have nearly the same shot of my mate on it.

The photo hasn't been flipped.

Mmm, see what you mean. Very convincing photo match.

I accepted Porcupine just because I remembered that we had certainly done it on the same day, but now that I think about it, "Black Icicle" does ring a very distant memory bell as well.

So my heartfelt apologies to tmawer who is the undisputed winner and route naming champ of the day.
