Needing to get wills done and our solicitor has said they can do it for £300 + VAT, which seems a bit excessive as its just for a house, no other special requirements / trusts / etc

I came across this site online - https://myscottishwill.co.uk/ which seems to be exactly what we need however it all looks a bit amateur hour but apparently the guy says he has been around since the naughties... has anyone used them or does anyone know of any more affordable will writing services for Scotland specifically?

If you can try not to die until September onwards and you're over 55, you can do it for free.

For those in other parts:

If you're in a union, they sometimes offer the service.

You've asked at a good time - as it's November, Will Aid is running, so many solicitors across the UK are doing wills for 'free' but with you mailing a donation of £100 for a single will (£180 for mirror wills) which goes to the Will Aid charities (ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, SCIAF, Sightsavers and Trocaire).  I did mine (2 years ago) with a solicitor in Edinburgh as there was no availability with the couple of firms in Inverness doing the Will Aid offer, but there were firms across Scotland doing it, not just England.

You'll get it for less but I'd consider £300 not bad, really.    My (limited) experience is that things often aren't actually as simple as you may think (what if a beneficiary dies first, any life insurance,, maybe through work?, who is a good executor? etc.).  Also future-proofing a will means you may be less likely to have to pay again in the future if you situation changes.
