Ilkley - beginner bottom ropes without gear?

I'll be visiting a friend (a novice who mostly boulders indoors) in Ilkley this weekend.

I'll have my sport gear with me anyway for another trip, but was hoping to not bring any nuts/hexes (I don't own cams).

To setup some bottom/top ropes to give my friend his first taste of outdoor climbing:

  • Are there anchors in Ilkley that can be setup with just slings / static line? Or should I just bring my trad gear?
  • Which are the best beginner routes to run laps on?
  • Or am I better off just heading for sport at Troller’s Gill or Giggleswick?

FYI I'm going by train, hence why I'd rather not carry all my nuts for one morning of building top rope anchors!

If it's just to give your mate a taste of moving on real rock, and bearing in mind you're travelling with a sport rack anyway, I'd just go to Trollers. Lovely location and there are plenty of easy routes on the right hand side. And it's not that far from Ilkley.

Yes, there's loads of boulders on top of the quarry wall at least. Lots of routes from VD to E1 to play on!
