Photo Sharing/Storage - Best options?

I have a huge library of climbing photos going back to the late 60s (around 200Gb) that I have inherited from my late father. What i want to do is get these online in some way so that all his climbing friends can freely access them.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Would rather avoid a subscription based cloud storage if possible but want to be able to mail a link out to the friends saying all the photos can be accessed via a link. Open to buying a storage device that i have at home but is then accessible by others but just not really sure on the best options

I’ve just taken out a subscription with idrive based entirely on online reviews. Ok, the initial subscription price swung it a bit too. I’ve only uploaded a relatively small amount of my archive to it, the only criticism I have is that it didn’t seem to like me trying to drag and drop several TB of files in one go and leaving it to transfer overnight.

So take that as a guarded recommendation. I’ll watch this thread with interest.

200 GB? Any chance those are high quality full‑size scans?

You might be able to resize them (copies, keep the originals, of course!) to something like HD 1080p size and save as more compressed JPEGs just for showing on the web. Could fit into Google Photos' 15 GB free limit that way (of course, given it's Google, they might change that limit in the future again). Make a new dedicated Google account only for the photos.

Of course, there are better cloud options and Google sucks, but if that's just for showing family & friends the family photo library... 🤷‍♀️

Flickr might be your best bet for a few quid a month. 1tb storage I think.

In reply to Frank R.:

There are 10's of thousands' of photos, a lot of which are scanned from slides.  When my dad retired he painstakingly scanned them all in, edited and annotated them.
Ideally i want to keep the sizes the same but i have thought about doing it via multiple Google accounts.

Agree about Flickr for this use. The Flickr pro account if need be.

I was off to suggest Flickr too, it does cost £7.99 a month for a pro account which gives you unlimited storage. Cheaper if you pay for 2 years.

You can create albums easy enough and allow photos to be downloaded by other people if you want, a good way to view them.

Not sure what the limit is on a free Flickr account, but looking at the size of the data you have I's say it's well above that.

If it's just for web presentation, you don't really need to show the full resolution scan file. A 1080p JPEG file can be as low as 1-3 MB and still be quite pretty to look at.

Why do you want to avoid a subscription?  It's almost certainly the best solution.  If it's because of cost then it'll likely be cheaper than buying a NAS, and managing a home storage device accessible over the internet will be an absolute nightmare if you are not technically adept, besides which most of the basic consumer devices for this are pure garbage.

I would sign up for a Google / Gmail account, purchase an additional 200GB of storage for £24.99/year and load all of the images into Google Photos where you can easily create and share an album.

If you have Office 365 Home Premium you will get 1TB of storage (OneDrive) baked in. Very easy to share links etc.

A great thing about Flickr subscription is that you can store and share high resolution video too, much better quality than Facebook etc. eg https://flic.kr/p/2pUz5et (just reject the cookies and view)
