Resoling hiking boots

Got a pair of Raichle leather hiking boots. The uppers are still in good nick, but the sole is starting to disintegrate. Trouble is, the sole and welt seems to be a single moulding.

Any suggestions where/how/if they can sensibly be resoled? Are there any specialist boot repairers in the Lakes that people would recommend? (Surely there must be!)

Lyon use/recommend Feet First for Sportiva stuff, as I recall. Should also be fine for Raichle (unless Mammut have a specific preference, these days)

Lancashire Sports Repairs re-soled some boots of mine a few years ago. I was very happy with the results.

They're based in Burnley, Lancashire.

Yes, their website is pretty good, it's an obvious first port of call, so thanks for that. It would be nice if someone had some personal experience?

I got my Scarpa Mescalitos resoled at Keycobbler in Kendal and very happy with the results.

Took my boots in yesterday for a quote, £95!!! Can't help thinking that if the soles have gone the goretex lining might not be too clever, so I think I will decline.

Seems about the going rate for a resoling. Don't underestimate the amount of work it takes.

Just because the soles have disintegrated doesn't mean the rest of the boot is unserviceable, but that's up to you to decide. Especially full leather tends to last way past the sole's lifetime.

That's an interesting point, I haven't ruled it out entirely.

Mine were £55 about a year ago, which I thought was reasonable, so I’m surprised at how much you were quoted but I suppose different soles will cost more than others.

Is that from a business card pinned to the wall of a phonebox?

Who is she? What are her contact details?

In reply to Rob Exile Ward:

You do pay a premium for a "specialist" resolver that has marketed itself at outdoor pursuits. Often a good local cobbler will do the same job for a fraction of the price.

One of her regulars then?

One option is to contact the shop where you originally bought the boots, and see if they have a relationship with anyone. I got my Meindl boots resoled by the manufacturer, all handled at no charge by the shop I had bough them from ten years earlier.
