Boring topic I know sorry but just wondering if anyone had experience or advice on the best mobile sim card for coverage in Tafraoute, Morocco. Can you buy in Tafraoute or necessary to buy in the airport? Or E-sim before departure?

I used an esim in Morocco last year. I went with Simly and I think I paid about £6 for 2GB which was plenty.

Oddly it stopped working on the last day of my trip so there may be reliability issues with it.

second that - you can buy them from the kiosk at the airport arrival concourse.

I’ve just returned from a 10 day trip to Tafraoute. I used a Holafly eSim (purchased and set-up before departure) which didn’t miss a beat - great coverage in the town and at all the crags we visited. I wouldn’t hesitate to use one again!

I found an inwi sim, bought at the airport (40gb for £20) was very reliable.

I’ve used GoMoWorld in Morocco - good eSIM app you can use pretty much anywhere, various data packages for Morocco and found it very reliable in numerous countries. Worth a look.

I used a BNE eSIM in Morocco earlier this year. Cheap, no problems.

In March, Orange and another company were both offering 20Gb Sims for €10 (or 40Gb/€20) at Agadir airport baggage collection. They will fit it and set it up for you as well. I bought Orange which had a surprisingly reliable system in the mountains, including Tafraoute, not quite so good but usable at Ksar Rock. I doubt if you'd get a SIM card in Tafraoute.

I have dual a SIM so could easily switch back to my UK SIM on my return. I guess if you don't, you'd have to change Sims on your return.

I think they are time limited, maybe a month? Mine lasted for the fortnight we were there.

I think they may be data only, in which case calls and texts would have to use WhatsApp.

Just returned from Tafraout.  I got an inwi SIM at the airport last year and managed to top it up at the airport two wks ago.  However, when the data ran out, i couldn't top it up with my credit card on the inwi website.  So i abandoned it.

I bought a new one (30 MAD) from a shop in Tafraout, (on the square by the Salama) and bought a 6 GB top-up over a month, for 50 MAD.  Worked fine.

Another member of our team bought a 1 GB top-up from the same place, only to find that it stopped working after a week.  I suspect you had to use it within 7 days.  Ask the guy how long it lasts, a few days, a week or a month.

Coverage is pretty good out there.  One of our team even answered a few work emails on a belay on Rainbow Buttress, at the top of the Samazar.
