We got in touch with Mike and asked whether, when the grit season came to an end, he'd be interested in doing a post-season retrospective? He said he was keen, and here we are.

Good to read that. I've been following his instagram with a sense of impressed bewilderment. For a while there it felt like a new E7/8/9 every couple of days, while I sat at home nursing my tired arms and sore skin after failing on some 6C boulder.... A mind bogglingly impressive season.

I've noticed him very regularly on the top ascents page and been hoping for an interview, thank you.  Interesting to see him use (what I think is) a slightly different sequence on EOTA than other videos I've seen.  Impressive tenacity to look for different beta on such an established classic.

Well as he said, he just threw a rope down and got on with it. So perhaps not so much looking for different beta as just deciding that what he did - the usual way or not - felt fine.

Also worth noting Mike is very tall and obviously very strong, so that beta probably wouldn't work for most.
